For Hân and Jory, the Lễ Vu Quy was far more than a ceremonial tradition. It became a bridge, gently drawing the past and the present into one shared moment. Through this celebration, we were invited to rediscover the beauty of what once was, as the family home that had witnessed Hân’s parents’ wedding thirty-five years ago was once again dressed in vibrant color. A familiar space, now alive with joy, welcoming Hân and Jory as they began their life as husband and wife.
Hân’s home rests quietly within a narrow alley, its modest and timeworn character preserved since the day her grandmother built it. The idea of recreating a traditional Lễ Vu Quy emerged as we listened to stories from Hân’s mother, Mai, recalling her own wedding day. Those memories became the emotional foundation of the celebration.
Within this nostalgic setting, soft arrangements of native Vietnamese flowers such as gladiolus, dahlias, and Rangoon creeper added gentle movement and warmth. Every corner of the house was adorned with care. Red silk cords, strands of delicate foliage, and even a calendar printed with Hân’s parents’ wedding date quietly carried meaning.
When Hân stepped forward wearing her mother’s wedding áo dài, the house filled with emotion as family members embraced, memories rising to the surface all at once. Love had always been planted, nurtured, and allowed to bloom within these walls.
Surrounded by echoes of the past, the atmosphere of Hân and Jory’s Lễ Vu Quy was lifted by the presence of those they love most. Family members watched Hân with radiant pride, waited eagerly for the arrival of the groom’s procession, and rejoiced as the couple joined hands amid blessings and smiles. After many years, the house welcomed Hỷ once more. A love honoured. A love remembered. And a new chapter marked with gratitude, continuity, and heartfelt celebration.
